Sometimes managing your healthcare appointments is easier with a little help. Whether a family member is managing your healthcare account after an injury, a spouse wants to coordinate care, or you're setting up access for an elderly parent, Medximity makes it straightforward to share your account safely.
What Caregiver Access Lets You Do
Caregiver access lets a trusted person help you manage your Medximity account. A family member can manage your healthcare appointments online, search for providers, and communicate on your behalf — all without sharing your password.
Common reasons to share medical account access with a family member include:
- Recovering from surgery or an injury and need help coordinating care
- Managing appointments for a child or elderly parent
- A spouse or partner handles your healthcare scheduling
Before You Start: What You'll Need

Understanding Permission Levels
Patient portal caregiver permission levels determine what your caregiver can do. Medximity offers two levels:
PermissionWhat the Caregiver Can Do View Only See your appointments and provider information. Cannot make changes or book appointments. Full Access Book, reschedule, and cancel appointments. Search for providers and update contact preferences on your behalf. You can change the permission level at any time from your account settings.
How to Edit or Revoke Caregiver Access
To change or remove caregiver access from your health account:
- Go to Account Settings > Caregiver & Delegate Access.
- Find the caregiver's name in your list.
- To edit: click Edit and change the permission level, then save.
- To remove: click Remove Access and confirm. The caregiver is logged out of your account immediately.

Privacy: What Your Caregiver Can and Cannot See
A common concern: can a caregiver see your medical records without you? Here's what applies on Medximity:
- Caregivers can see: Your appointments, saved providers, and any messages sent through the platform.
- Caregivers cannot see: Your account password, payment details, or any medical records held by providers outside the Medximity platform.
- Medximity does not store clinical records. Caregivers can only access what exists within your Medximity account.
Special Use Cases: Minors, Elderly Patients, and Post-Injury Recovery
Minor children: A parent or legal guardian can create and fully manage a minor child's health account online. Select Full Access when setting up the account.
Elderly parents: Setting up health account access for an elderly parent works the same as any caregiver invitation. The parent receives the invite email and accepts — or you can contact support to assist with accounts where email access is limited.
Post-injury recovery: If you need to know how to manage a family member's healthcare account after an injury, a trusted person with Full Access can handle all scheduling while you recover. You can revoke or reduce access at any time once you're ready to take back control.
What Happens If You Change Your Password or Email
Caregiver access is linked to your account, not your password. Changing your password does not automatically remove caregiver access — caregivers log in through their own credentials and will retain their permission level.
If you change your account email address, active caregiver invitations remain valid. Pending invitations (not yet accepted) may need to be re-sent after an email change.
Troubleshooting
If caregiver account access is not working in the patient portal, try these steps:
- Invitation not received: Ask the caregiver to check their spam folder. Resend from Caregiver & Delegate Access > Resend Invite.
- Caregiver cannot log in: Confirm they created a Medximity account using the same email you invited.
- Access shows as Pending: The caregiver hasn't accepted the invitation yet. Invitations expire after 7 days — resend if needed.
- Wrong permission level applied: Go to Caregiver & Delegate Access, click Edit, and update the level.
- Caregiver can't see appointments: Confirm the permission level is set to View Only or Full Access, not pending.
