Dr. Anderson grew up in Pennsylvania and was very active in playing lacrosse and field hockey through high school and college, until knee injuries ended her career. Orthopedic care for women in the 1960's and 70's was nonexistant, and has stimulated her choice of specialties. She trained at UCLA and was the first women orthopedic resident and did a fellowship in Sportsmedicine and Knee Surgery in 1983. She moved back to SF in 1985 to start her private practice. She is a mother and is lives with her partner in Marin County.My practice started as one of the first female orthopedic private practices in San Francisco, After a fellowship in sportsmedicine and knee surgery, I decided to focus on treating just knee and shoulder injuries as the technology of surgery expanded rapidly in the 1980's and 1990's. We were the first practice to utilize allograft in the treatment of ligament injuries, and also performed the first cartilage transplant in San Francisco as well. I took on a terrific associate, Robert Purchase MD in 2011, who has complemented and offers all areas of sports and orthopedic treatment. My hope is that as the upcoming years pass, that we will continue to stay at the leading edge of knee and shoulder care in Orthopedics, and at the same time continuing to provide individual service to our patients.
