A propos

Dr. Stephen Chao, PT, DPT, CSCS is a kind thoughtful leader who practices with great care and skill. He generously imparts his knowledge onto the clinical team ensuring every patient at Flex receives top quality care. Stephen brings over a decade of experience as a therapist to Flex. He first graduated from Stony Brook University with a Bachelor's degree in Health Science and went on to serve as a paramedic before enrolling in the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program at NYU. He gained exposure to patient care at Hospital for Special Surgery, Columbia University Sport Orthopedics and Bellevue Medical Center. After graduating from NYU, he served as a Senior Physical Therapist for over 5 years at Memorial Sloan Kettering, specializing in oncology rehabilitation. Stephen returned to Stony Brook to join the faculty in the Doctorate in Physical Therapy Program. He is involved in the orthopedic rehabilitation track, exercise physiology and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation classes and research.Dr. Joel Giffin, PT, DPT, CHT founded Flex Physical Therapy in 2014, after practicing for nearly a decade where he provided crisis intervention for Broadway Theater Productions; was awarded the honor of "Best Clinical Director" of an outpatient orthopedic clinic; and obtained the prestigious certification of hand therapist. Joel asserted it was possible to start a practice where quality patient care and a calm positive work environment were always at the core. Flex is comprised of an elite team, and special for many reasons. Each clinician is incredibly skilled and passionate. You are ALWAYS seen 1:1 by a Doctor of Physical Therapy (no aide, no assistant, no sharing time with another patient). You receive a customized treatment plan that incorporates the wellness of your whole orthopedic system (the body is not one size fits all nor should treatment be designed that way).
