Alex became the owner of Back to Center Bodywork in late 2021, and is proud to carry on founder Bailey Nichols' legacy. Back to Center was created to focus on building meaningful, ongoing therapeutic partnerships to help minimize the physical challenges related to chronic pain and stress -- within a relaxing, aesthetic environment. In line with this mission, for over a decade I've been highly trained and experienced in working with muscular dysfunction, spinal conditions, postural habits, injuries, and more, while caring about the entire client experience. As of January 2025, Back to Center Bodywork is now Alex's solo practice. See the website to learn more and book your appointment!Back to Center Bodywork was opened by Bailey Nichols in October 2013, inside another business on Piedmont Ave. Meredith Shannon was brought on in 2014 to meet growing demand, followed by outgrowing their first space and moving to a two room studio in 2015. With this move came the addition of Kelley Schaffer then Alex Gwozda to Back to Center's team of fantastic massage therapists, followed by another move to 154 Santa Clara Ave in 2016 and further expansion including Andrea and Chrystal. Bailey moved to another state, and Alex developed the clinic for several years until disbanding to refocus on Back to Center Bodywork as his solo practice. He and his now independent colleagues are happy to serve our greater Oakland community!
