After retiring from the military, I decided to pick up triathlon racing. I completed many races from sprint to ironman distance with an emphasis on long course distances. Again, excellent PT kept me racing as pain free as possible. At this point I realized I had a passion for the therapeutic world and enrolled at the University of St. Augustine. I graduated with a Master of Occupational Therapy degree in 2014 and my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in 2015. I completed these two degrees vs one in order to widen my scope and my ability to treat conditions and to compliment varying approaches not learned from the other discipline. Since graduating, I have worked in many therapeutic venues such as skilled nursing facilities, PACE programs, neurorehabilitation, vestibular, hand therapy, and outpatient orthopedics. I have been a volunteer coach for 8U-14U ice hockey at multiple rinks in San Diego as a certified Level 3 USA Hockey Coach and I continue to play adult league hockey weekly.Meet Your Therapist: Duane Pierce PT, DPT, OTR/L, MOT, CSCS. For me the road to becoming a therapist took quite some time but the knowledge gained along the way was invaluable. I spent the first 21 years of my adult life proudly serving as a US Navy SEAL. One can imagine the abuse and accumulated damage a body goes through with over two decades of combat training and combat operations. Physical Therapy (PT) was essential to my recovery from hundreds of combined sprains, strains, fractures, and surgeries. I hope this information displays an accurate picture of my dedication to education as well as my life experience. Drawing upon this knowledge, my mission is to assist you in reaching your goals which might be pain relief, completing a race, or being able to pick up your child.
