Dr. Altenrath developed an interest in chiropractic through first hand experience while attending Northeastern University in Boston. As a baseball and hockey player, he sustained several injuries to his back and shoulder for which shots of cortisone and physical therapy were the main prescription. Finally, upon the recommendation from a friend, he visited a chiropractor who proceeded to educate him on the importance of not only strengthening and stretching tight muscles, but also finding and correcting the inhibited muscles that caused the opposite muscles to be tight in the first place. He was also introduced to chiropractic adjustments which were specifically administered to correct nerve interference so that the injured tissues could heal quicker and more effectively. After a few weeks of treatment the shoulder and back pain was gone.Dr. Altenrath took over ACA Chiropractic Center in 2001 although the practice has been a fixture in the community since the 1980s. Dr. Altenrath has continued to evolve his skill over the years by getting certifications in Active Release techniques, applied kinesiology, McKenzie protocols, Kinesio taping, as well as utilizing and analyzing motion study x-rays in the clinic.
