Dr. Chung and NUCCA chiropractic are lifesavers! On January 6, 2019, I was involved in an auto accident. My car was spun 180 degrees, my head whipped right to left, and my whole spine cracked. As a result, i had a mild traumatic brain injury, which turned into post-concussion syndrome, a cluster of symptoms that remain unresolved. For 2.5 years, these often-debilitating symptoms interfered with my activities of daily living, including work, travel, and performing music. I saw multiple specialists in various disciplines, and none of them could find anything wrong, telling me that I was on the “cutting edge of brain injury” and that I “should be prepared for accommodations for the rest of my life.” The doctors suggested that it might be a brain stem injury, which would be permanent. My medical team had given up, and my life as I knew it was over. I learned about NUCCA through a Facebook group for people with post-concussion syndrome. When I talked to Dr. Chung, he mentioned that a misaligned upper cervical vertebra can put pressure on the dura mater around the brain stem and interfere with communication between body and brain. The words brain stem made my decision for me. I’ll never forget seeing the x-rays showing that my atlas was tilted and rotated. I finally had an answer. I had one (very subtle, very gentle) adjustment in September 2021. As Dr. Chung said I would, I felt awful for a week as the body recalibrated itself to the new alignment. But the symptoms went away, and the next month, I performed in a choral concert without needing any accommodations or recovery time. Since then the symptoms are gone, and I have my life back: gardening, music, travel, work. Dr. Chung saved my life, and I am so grateful to him.
