Should my child get adjusted by a Chiropractor?

You may wonder why you should have your kids see a Chiropractor. Many folks think that kids haven’t been around long enough for any real problems to develop. Yet, the reality is that from birth every human's body goes through serious traumas that are often overlooked as normal. In fact, the birthing process alone is enough to call for an adjustment.

Regardless of your spine is big or little, if a misalignment is causing nerves to miscommunicate then your body will not be able to operate properly. Your nervous system is like your body’s control center. It relays the messages exchanged between your brain and body.

These messages help a child’s body develop, grow, repair tissues, coordination, immune function, respiration, digestion and so much more. Just like adults, an upper cervical misalignment can radically affect the body’s nervous system’s ability to transmit information. When these communication channels become blocked, distorted, or damaged then we experience all sorts of communication errors.

Pediatric Chiropractors Alleviate Many Other Common Problems

For infants and young children, the bodies inability to effectively communicate from misalignments (also known as subluxations) can cause colic, irritability, an inability to suckle and breastfeed, poor sleep, weak immunity, frequent ear infections, developmental delays, digestion issues, asthma, behavioral problems, low energy, inability to concentrate, headaches… really, the problems that can arise are practically endless.

Subluxations can happen to kids during normal daily activities. They can be caused by physical, chemical, and emotional stressors such as bumps, falls, bad posture, poor sleeping habits, unhealthy food choices, dehydration, exposure to chemicals or toxins, stress, and anxiety. Actually, even before these stressors, nerve irritation from subluxations can start while your child is still in the womb from simply being in an awkward position.

Another big causes of nerve irritation are the birthing process in general. Things such as long labors, very fast labors, forceps, and cesarean delivery can force the baby’s neck to twist or bend causing misalignment of the upper cervical vertebrae.

Most Babies NEED A Chiropractor

According to a study published in the Journal of Manual Medicine, 80% of children are born with misalignments that blocked or reduced nerve impulses. Which means most kids need a chiropractor. The medical doctor who performed the research, Dr. Gutmann, said that these blocked nerve impulses can cause motor and developmental impairments, and even lower your kid's resistance to infections, especially ear, nose, and throat infections.

Yet even if a child happens to fall in the 20% that don’t experience a misalignment, it is only a matter of time before they start walking and, of course, start falling. Due to how important the nervous system is to childhood development and because of how easily it can be impaired by even slight misalignments, it’s crucial that you have your kids checked by a chiropractor as soon as possible.
