Managing Referrals

Sending a Referral

  1. Open the patient's record.
  2. Click New Referral.
  3. Search for the receiving provider by name, specialty, or location in the Medximity directory.
  4. Select the reason for referral and attach relevant records (with patient consent).
  5. Submit the referral. The receiving provider is notified instantly.

Receiving a Referral

Incoming referrals appear in your EHR dashboard with the patient's information and the referring provider's notes. Accept the referral to add the patient to your schedule.

Tracking

Both the referring and receiving providers can track the referral status: pending, accepted, scheduled, completed, or declined. The patient can also see the referral status in their portal.

Patient Consent

Referrals require patient consent for sharing clinical records. The patient is notified and must authorize the record transfer before clinical documents are shared with the receiving provider.
