About

Brian Wilson is the founder and president of Catalyst Physical Therapy & Wellness. His journey towards physical therapy began as a high school biology teacher and varsity soccer coach in an urban school district in Kansas City, Missouri where he grew up. He, like many of his colleagues, trained athletes the way he had been coached only to find out that not all bodies are built to withstand the same rigors of sport and life. Seeking out advice on how to cure his injured athletes, Brian stumbled into an open house for physical therapy. After conversing and picking the brain of several university professors, Brian found himself being interviewed for a position in the upcoming Master's class. From that night on, Brian has been on a mission to change the way people treat their bodies. He earned his Master's in Physical Therapy (MPT) from Rockhurst University in 2006 and moved to California the following year to pursue experience in the field of functional physical therapy. He routinelWe began treating patients in January of 2014 out of Point Loma, California. In October of 2015, we expanded our services to Central San Diego by moving to Mission Valley where we now offer physical therapy, massage, yoga, acupuncture, personal training, bike fitting, golf specific screening, and nutrition counseling. We hope to continue paving the path for others in our industry by hosting community education programs and increasing our wellness memberships to help our guests continue evolving in the sports and hobbies that bring them a higher quality of life.

I would recommend Catalyst to anybody who needs PT, especially athletes. I had a badly broken knee cap and spent a little over a year in PT. Each of the therapists I worked with was excellent!! They are supportive but also push you when you need to work hard. They are each good listeners and want to spend as much time with the patient as possible. They got me back on my feet and I couldn’t feel more grateful

Working with Elizabeth ("Lizzy") at Catalyst Physical Therapy has been one of the best decisions I've made during my recovery. From day one, she took the time to listen, understand my goals, and create a treatment plan that was both challenging and realistic. Lizzy is incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely invested in her patients' success. She always explains the purpose behind each exercise, celebrates every milestone, and keeps me motivated even on the difficult days. Her positive attitude and encouragement made a huge difference throughout my rehabilitation. The entire team at Catalyst Physical Therapy is welcoming and professional, and the environment makes you feel comfortable from the moment you walk in. If you're looking for a physical therapist who truly cares about helping you regain your strength, confidence, and mobility, I highly recommend asking for Lizzy. Thank you for everything you've done to help me get back on my feet!

Follow-up review. I am now four months into my PT journey, still working with Catalyst PT. That right there should tell you a lot: I am not a man who settles for “good enough” on important issues. Olivia remains my primary physical therapist (PT). Over these past four months, we have developed an excellent healer and patient situation. She is honest and communicates extremely well. Support has transitioned from Steven to Sofia. Both Steven and Sofia have been fantastic to work with, and I am pleased to see them learn from Olivia, as she is an excellent model to learn from. I like that the work space at Catalyst is very positive and is treated like a laboratory. I have seen therapists ask each other questions and work through positions. When a therapist doesn’t have a patient in front of them, it is common to see them interact with both other therapists and patients. It creates a collegial work place, and I have been pleasantly surprised that there is no drama and that people have dropped the ego and are actively trying to get better. Questions are encouraged and not seen as an “affront to my expertise.” The therapy regimen that Olivia has designed for me is producing positive results. My range of motion has measurably improved with actual testing methods that aren’t just the usual, “Tell me how you feel” subjective quantification. Of course patient feedback is vital, but measurements which quantify my turning radius, for example, are another set of data that we use to adapt to my progress and keep incrementally improving. The Front Desk at Catalyst is incredible. The ladies who run the desk are professional, engaged, and supportive. From billing issues to scheduling therapeutic visits, they grease the path and remove any obstacles that inevitably arise. Dealing with health care insurance can be a convoluted endeavor which adds hoops to jump through. The Catalyst front desk is engaged with the patients and they take care of things that a lay person wouldn’t even begin to know. Sadly, this is rare, so it needs to be stated: The Catalyst front desk team is doing a fantastic job. My results after three months with Catalyst PT have been steadily improving. I have more thoracic spine rotation. I have less morning pain overall. The videos I shoot to improve my golf swing technique provide visual proof that what we are doing is working. I have committed to a year-long PT program to improve my mobility. I am happy to report that Catalyst will be walking beside me on the journey.

I’ve had a great experience at Catalyst – particularly with my PT Olivia. I cannot recommend Olivia highly enough. From weekly sessions that both challenged me and gave me confidence along my recovery, she provided me with practical at-home routines and small habit tweaks that have made a lasting difference. In addition to being skilled at her craft, she is generally well organized and great to schedule with. I truly enjoyed every session with Olivia and, most importantly, Olivia helped me feel like myself again. I’ll be carrying her advice with me for years to come.

Catalyst is an amazing PT clinic! All of the staff from the front desk, PT aids, and massage therapists are all very friendly and professional. The PTs I saw were all very knowledgeable and worked with me through many sports related injuries. Audra especially, is one of the most thorough PTs I have ever seen, she makes sure she finds something that works no matter the issue. I felt very well taken care of as she worked above and beyond to make sure I hit my goals. On top of that, she is incredibly kind and personable to make all her patients feel very comfortable sharing issues and feedback. Would highly recommend to anyone!
