When I first met Dr. Mento six months ago, he told me something I’ll never forget. “I don’t actually heal people,” he said. “The body heals itself.” I’ve seen many doctors – six in the past four years – in my search to find relief from chronic migraines. Each one did all they could to help me manage the pain. They asked lots of questions about my symptoms. A couple of them, including a neurologist in Davenport and another in Iowa City, even suffered from migraines themselves. But as I listened to Dr. Mento explain his philosophy, I realized that no doctor had ever discussed my body before. They’d all treated the problem in my head as if it was detached from the rest of me. Now, after six months of treatment, my migraine days are reduced by more than half. The headaches I do get are shorter and less severe. My blood sugar remains steady throughout the day and night.
