After completing his orthopaedic training, Dr. John Dearborn joined the Fremont Orthopaedic Medical Group in 1997, with the goal of building a joint replacement program that would combine the best of what he had seen on both coasts.
In 1999, he partnered with the Washington Hospital Healthcare System to create the Center for Joint Replacement, a comprehensive, multifaceted program that now serves arthritis patients from all over the world. Over the next 5 years, the CJR would double its surgical volume each year, as patients from the greater Bay Area and beyond began traveling to have their painful hips and knees restored by Dr. Dearborn and his team.
Dr. Sah arrived in 2008 and immediately had an impact on the surgical volume and clinical research at CJR. He brought specialty training in minimally invasive surgery from Chicago as well as new perspective.With the added personnel and margin, Dr. Dearborn's vision for a comprehensive Institute could finally be realized.

Absolutely the best team to care for your needs. Dr Dearborn is undoubtedly one of the best surgeons the nation, and his team top notch. They give you seamless access for questions, and if you need advice on your medications or any other help, No waiting for a call back. There are many specialists at the nurses desk to take your calll. I traveled half the way around the world to have him replace my worn knee and could not be more pleased with the outcome. Thanks to Dr Dearborn and his team I will have many years ahead without pain and limiting my activities.

i've lifted weights heavy and cycled intensely for over 40 years. i had progressively increasing pain in my left shoulder over a 2 month period that prevented most tricep, overhead and flat bench pressing movements. basically i could no longer lift. i feared shoulder replacement would be required. my knee orthopedic surgeon recommended Dr. Costouros. on a scale of 1 (worst) to 10 (best), my experience with Dr. Costouros is 100. -he immediately saw me in person within 1 week of my initial call to his office. -he 100% focused on my objectives. i wanted to maintain an active lifestyle: lifting, cycling, hiking, travel, ... -my xrays and mri had not arrived at his clinic so he arranged xrays on the spot. -he quickly assessed that i had likely torn the long head biceps attachment and would likely require rotator cuff repair as well. -he recommended arthroscopic surgery to repair the above. -within a week he operated on my shoulder. he reattached my long head biceps to my humerus and repaired my rotator cuff. -i followed his instructions for the 3 month rehab process with intensive PT. -4 months after surgery i am lifting 100% of my all time highest weights and cycling at pre injury levels. Dr. Costouros is a genius, a master. i can't thank him enough. we are lucky to have the best shoulder surgeon in the bay area. If you have shoulder issues Dr. Costouros is the answer.

Mom had 2 knees replaced by Dr. Dearborn (one after the other) and he was thorough, knowledgeable, and compassionate. He took the time to explain things to my mom to reassure her of her situation as well as just before surgery. He provided the best bedside manner of any surgeon, way beyond my expectations.
