Dr. Artem Abakumov has a collective 7 years of working in pediatrics. This includes working with kids at a sensory integration occupational therapy practice and in behavioral therapy. In the athletic field, Dr. Abakumov specializes in sports that are highly dynamic with emphasis on surfing, rock climbing, snowboarding, gymnastics, kayaking, and the everyday athlete. His passion is to solve problems and help others reach their highest potential. Dr. Abakumov grew up in the northwestern region of the Black Sea on the Crimean peninsula in Sevastopol, Ukraine. He immigrated to Chicago, Illinois in 1999 where he completed his formal education and received his degree in psychology with a focus in behavioral research. He then moved to southern California where he earned his Doctorate of Chiropractic and continues to pursue sports medicine.

At On Axis Health the focus is on functional treatment of injury. A functional approach is a deep approach. It's not just treating the obvious area of pain (the obvious injury). It's looking at you and finding out where your imbalances are. Do you have flat feet? Do you have a high arch? Do you support your posture well? Do you move well in simple, basic movement patterns? How do you apply your movement strategies to your daily activities or sport? Looking at the function of a person helps to determine why that injury occurred and what can be done while that injury is healing to make sure that not only the injury heals, but that it does not return because you have not addressed the true cause. That is the functional approach to healing.
